The Amalgamation of Bishop Challoner Catholic Girls’ and Boys’ Schools

On 29 March 2023, the Council Cabinet took the decision to agree the amalgamation (merger) of Bishop Challoner Catholic Girls’ and Boys’ Schools, to create Bishop Challoner Co-educational Catholic School for 11–18-year-olds.
The council will now implement its arrangements for the schools’ merger to take effect from 1 September 2023. This process will begin on the expiry of five working days following this notice
Public Meetings Regarding Amalgamation
There were two public meetings regarding the proposal to amalgamate.
The first public meeting was on Tuesday, 31st January at the school.
The second public meeting took place on Zoom on Tuesday, 7th February.

Notice is thereby given, in accordance with The School Organisation (Establishment and Discontinuance of Schools) Regulations 2013, that Tower Hamlets Local Authority intends to discontinue Bishop Challoner RC Boys’ School by 31 August 2023. This notice includes the Local Authority’s proposal to make a prescribed alteration to Bishop Challoner Catholic Girls School’, by converting it to a boys and girls school and expanding its size from 5FE to 9FE. Bishop Challoner Catholic Girls’ School would be renamed as Bishop Challoner Catholic School from 1st September 2023, in accordance with The School Organisation (Prescribed Alternations to Maintained Schools) (England) Regulations 2013. Pupils currently attending The Bishop Challoner Catholic Federation Boys’ and Girls’ Schools will continue in the amalgamated School.

to or make comments on the proposal by email or by post.
