Over the Summer Term, the Music Department participated in the Barbican Box Project. This was a term long project where a physical box was delivered to the school and pupils had to explore the theme (this year’s theme was 'Empowerment') and create 8 minutes of music based on the theme and what is in the box.
This year's box was curated by Detta Danford and 8 different artists, with various objects in the box that relate to the theme. An artist mentor, Jack Miguel, was assigned to our school and came in to deliver 3 half day composition sessions with the pupils involved.
On Monday, 23rd May, students visited the Barbican Centre to learn about different careers that musicians and technicians can work in and the pathways to these careers. Pupils also learnt how to create their own music festival and how to market it to sell tickets. Devon Ejekukor (Year 10) pitched Bishop’s "Midsummer Unity” Festival to four other participating schools and industry professionals which focused around bringing people together through the love of music.
The project culminated in a fantastic performance at EaRTH in Hackney on 1st July with a full production crew and a packed audience.
